Summary
Istradefylline at the 40 mg/day dose weakly inhibits CYP3A4 and can raise exposure to CYP3A4 substrates. Tinidazole is partly metabolized by CYP3A4, so its levels may rise modestly, increasing the chance of dose-related adverse effects such as nausea or metallic taste.
What this interaction means in plain words
Istradefylline and Tinidazole have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Istradefylline belongs to Central Nervous System; Tinidazole belongs to Anti Parasitic.
Why it happens
Istradefylline at higher doses inhibits intestinal and hepatic CYP3A4, reducing tinidazole clearance.
What to do
No routine dose change is needed for standard short tinidazole courses. Watch for gastrointestinal or neurological adverse effects if istradefylline 40 mg/day is used.
