Summary

Voriconazole inhibits CYP2C19 and CYP3A4, the two main enzymes that clear lansoprazole, which can increase lansoprazole exposure. Lansoprazole is generally well tolerated, so the increase is usually of limited consequence, although reciprocal effects on voriconazole may also occur through CYP2C19.

What this interaction means in plain words

Lansoprazole and Voriconazole have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Lansoprazole belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract; Voriconazole belongs to Anti Fungals.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Voriconazole inhibits CYP2C19 and CYP3A4-mediated metabolism of lansoprazole.

What to do

No routine dose adjustment is needed; consider reducing lansoprazole dose if adverse effects emerge, particularly in CYP2C19 poor metabolizers.
