What this interaction means in plain words
Lonafarnib and Metronidazole can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Lonafarnib belongs to Miscellaneous; Metronidazole belongs to Anti Parasitic.
Why it happens
Metronidazole may inhibit CYP3A4 and reduce lonafarnib clearance, though its inhibitory effect is weak to moderate.
What to do
Prefer a non-interacting antimicrobial; if unavoidable, monitor ECG and for adverse effects and consider lonafarnib dose reduction.
