Summary

Thioridazine has strong anticholinergic activity, so combining it with oxybutynin can markedly increase dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention and confusion. Thioridazine also prolongs the QT interval, and anticholinergic tachycardia adds to cardiac risk.

What this interaction means in plain words

Oxybutynin and Thioridazine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Oxybutynin belongs to Genitourinary; Thioridazine belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive muscarinic receptor blockade.
