Summary

Pancuronium blocks nicotinic receptors at the neuromuscular junction and also has a vagolytic effect that causes tachycardia. Scopolamine adds antimuscarinic effects, so heart rate may rise further and sedation may be additive in the perioperative setting. There is no meaningful additive neuromuscular blockade.

What this interaction means in plain words

Pancuronium and Scopolamine have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Pancuronium belongs to Musculoskeletal; Scopolamine belongs to Respiratory.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Pancuronium's vagolytic action adds to muscarinic blockade by scopolamine, which may increase heart rate.

What to do

Monitor heart rate and rhythm during anesthesia. No dose change is normally needed.
