Summary

Corticosteroids given with neuromuscular blockers, especially in critically ill patients, have been associated with acute myopathy and prolonged muscle weakness. Corticosteroids may also alter the degree and duration of neuromuscular blockade.

What this interaction means in plain words

Pancuronium and Triamcinolone can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Pancuronium belongs to Musculoskeletal; Triamcinolone belongs to Endocrine.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive muscle toxicity and altered neuromuscular transmission; the exact mechanism is not fully established.

What to do

Use the lowest effective doses and shortest durations, and monitor neuromuscular function and creatine kinase if weakness develops. Watch for delayed ventilator weaning.
