Summary
Voriconazole may increase quazepam exposure and prolong its effects. This can cause excess sedation, psychomotor impairment and respiratory depression, particularly in older adults.
What this interaction means in plain words
Quazepam and Voriconazole can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Voriconazole inhibits CYP3A4 (and CYP2C19), reducing quazepam clearance.
What to do
Use a reduced quazepam dose and monitor for oversedation. Consider a benzodiazepine cleared by glucuronidation if combined therapy is needed.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
