What this interaction means in plain words
Quinine and Voclosporin can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Quinine belongs to Anti Parasitic; Voclosporin belongs to Miscellaneous.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation, plus quinine inhibition of CYP3A4 and P-gp that may increase voclosporin levels.
What to do
Avoid if possible. If combined, monitor ECG, electrolytes and renal function, and watch for voclosporin toxicity.
