Summary

NSAIDs can reduce renal clearance of aminoglycosides, raising serum levels, mainly documented in premature neonates treated with indomethacin. Sulindac has relatively little renal prostaglandin effect, and the interaction is poorly documented for adults.

What this interaction means in plain words

Streptomycin and Sulindac have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Streptomycin belongs to Anti Bacterial; Sulindac belongs to Musculoskeletal.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Reduced renal prostaglandin-dependent blood flow and glomerular filtration lowers aminoglycoside clearance.

What to do

No routine action is needed in adults with normal renal function. Monitor renal function and streptomycin levels in neonates or patients with renal impairment.
