Summary

Concomitant corticosteroids and non-depolarizing neuromuscular blockers such as vecuronium, particularly in prolonged use in critically ill patients, have been associated with acute quadriplegic myopathy. This may present as prolonged weakness and delayed ventilator weaning.

What this interaction means in plain words

Triamcinolone and Vecuronium can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Triamcinolone belongs to Endocrine; Vecuronium belongs to Musculoskeletal.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Not fully established; suspected additive toxic effects on skeletal muscle with prolonged neuromuscular blockade and corticosteroid exposure.

What to do

Minimize the duration and dose of both drugs and monitor neuromuscular function. Investigate prolonged weakness for myopathy, including checking creatine kinase.
