Oritavancin is a lipoglycopeptide antibacterial drug; the label gives no further mechanism detail.
Posologie adulte habituelle (résumé de la notice)
ABSSSI (adults 18 years and older): 1,200 mg as a single dose by intravenous infusion over 1 hour.
Grossesse et allaitement

- Unknown No human data; no effects on embryo-fetal development or survival in rats or rabbits at doses about 25% of the single clinical dose. Weigh the need for this single-dose antibiotic against the unknown risk.
- Allaitement
- Unknown No human milk data; it passes into rat milk. LactMed: poorly absorbed by mouth, so unlikely to reach the infant's blood; watch for diarrhoea or thrush. With no published experience, an alternative may be preferred, especially with a newborn or preterm infant.

Contre-indications
- Intravenous unfractionated heparin is contraindicated for 120 hours (5 days) after administration because aPTT may remain falsely elevated.
- Known hypersensitivity to oritavancin products.
Précautions particulières
- Coagulation test interference: aPTT prolonged up to 120 hours, PT/INR up to 12 hours, ACT up to 24 hours; consider a chromogenic Factor Xa assay or an alternative anticoagulant not requiring aPTT.
- Serious hypersensitivity including anaphylaxis; discontinue infusion if it occurs and monitor patients with glycopeptide allergy.
- Infusion related reactions; stopping or slowing the infusion may stop them.
