Indications
Mécanisme d'action
Its anticholinergic action exerts a smooth-muscle relaxing/spasmolytic effect. Blockade of the muscarinic receptors in the GI tract is the basis for its use in the treatment of abdominal pain secondary to cramping. Hyoscine butylbromide also binds to nicotinic receptors, which induces a ganglion-blocking effect.
Posologie adulte habituelle (résumé de la notice)
Nausea & Vomiting (Treatment): 0.3-0.65 mg IV/IM/SC; repeat q6-8hr if necessary
Grossesse et allaitement
- Grossesse
- Unknown Covers hyoscine butylbromide (Buscopan, poorly absorbed by mouth) and hyoscine hydrobromide (patch, tablets). US patch label: no rise in birth defects in observational data; avoid in severe pre-eclampsia (seizures after injection). UK Buscopan: not recommended in pregnancy as a precaution.
- Allaitement
- Safe Hyoscine passes into milk. LactMed: a single dose is unlikely to affect breastfeeding, but long-term use may reduce milk supply or let-down; watch for poor feeding and weight gain. UK Buscopan: not recommended while breastfeeding (no data).
