Sintesi
Probenecid reduces the renal tubular secretion of indometacin, the active metabolite of acemetacin, raising its levels. This can increase NSAID adverse effects such as GI bleeding and renal impairment.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Acemetacin and Probenecid can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Perché avviene
Probenecid inhibits OAT-mediated renal tubular secretion of acemetacin and its active metabolite indometacin.
Cosa fare
Monitor for NSAID toxicity (GI symptoms, renal function) and use the lowest effective acemetacin dose.
Cosa chiedere al farmacista
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?

Domande frequenti
Can I take Acemetacin with Probenecid?
MediHelp rates the interaction as moderate. Acemetacin and Probenecid can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken. This can increase NSAID adverse effects such as GI bleeding and renal impairment.
How serious is the interaction between Acemetacin and Probenecid?
MediHelp rates it moderate, on a four-level scale (minor, moderate, major, contraindicated) based on published labels and references. What to do, in brief: Monitor for NSAID toxicity (GI symptoms, renal function) and use the lowest effective acemetacin dose.
What other medicines interact with Probenecid?
MediHelp also lists interactions of Probenecid with, for example, Ketorolac intranasal, Ketorolac, Baricitinib. The full list is on the Probenecid page.
