Sintesi
Carbamazepine markedly lowers voriconazole concentrations, risking antifungal treatment failure. Voriconazole may in turn raise carbamazepine levels, causing toxicity. Voriconazole labeling contraindicates its use with carbamazepine.

Carbamazepine and Voriconazole are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Carbamazepine belongs to Central Nervous System; Voriconazole belongs to Anti Fungals.
Perché avviene
Carbamazepine induces CYP3A4 and other CYP enzymes, accelerating voriconazole metabolism, while voriconazole inhibits CYP3A4 and may reduce carbamazepine clearance.

Do not combine. Use an alternative antifungal that is not affected, or an alternative anticonvulsant with no enzyme-inducing effect, according to the infection and seizure type.
