Sintesi
Cobimetinib is a CYP3A substrate, and ciprofloxacin is a moderate CYP3A inhibitor according to cobimetinib labeling. Co-use may raise cobimetinib exposure and increase its adverse effects, such as hemorrhage, rhabdomyolysis, liver toxicity and retinopathy.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Ciprofloxacin and Cobimetinib can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Ciprofloxacin belongs to Anti Bacterial; Cobimetinib belongs to Oncology.
Perché avviene
Ciprofloxacin inhibits CYP3A4, reducing cobimetinib metabolism and raising its exposure.
Cosa fare
Prefer an alternative antibiotic. If a moderate CYP3A inhibitor is needed for 14 days or less, cobimetinib labeling recommends reducing the dose to 20 mg, and the usual dose is resumed after the inhibitor is stopped.
