Sintesi
Ketorolac inhibits platelets and can cause GI bleeding, and enoxaparin is an anticoagulant, so serious hemorrhage including spinal or epidural hematoma is more likely. Ketorolac labeling contraindicates use in patients at risk of bleeding.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Enoxaparin and Ketorolac are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Enoxaparin belongs to Cardiovascular; Ketorolac belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Perché avviene
Additive hemostatic impairment through antiplatelet NSAID effect and low molecular weight heparin anti-Xa activity.
Cosa fare
Avoid ketorolac in patients receiving enoxaparin and choose a non-NSAID analgesic; if exposure occurs, monitor for bleeding and neurologic signs after neuraxial procedures.
Cosa chiedere al farmacista
