Macimorelin stimulates GH release by activating growth hormone secretagogue receptors present in the pituitary and hypothalamus.

Unknown Oral test agent for adult growth hormone deficiency, given as a single dose. No human data and no animal reproduction studies; the single dose limits the risk. Testing can usually wait until after pregnancy.

  • QT prolongation: increases QTc by about 11 msec; can lead to torsade de pointes. Avoid drugs that prolong the QT interval.
  • Strong CYP3A4 inducers can decrease macimorelin levels and cause false positive results; discontinue and allow washout before testing.
  • Recent onset hypothalamic disease may give false negative results; repeat testing may be warranted.
