Resumo

Barbiturates are CYP3A4 inducers and can substantially lower ranolazine concentrations. This may lead to loss of antianginal efficacy.

O que esta interação significa em palavras simples

Amobarbital and Ranolazine are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.

Amobarbital belongs to Central Nervous System; Ranolazine belongs to Cardiovascular.

Nível de evidência: Moderate

Por que acontece

Induction of hepatic and intestinal CYP3A4 (and P-gp) increasing ranolazine clearance.

O que fazer

Do not use together; ranolazine labeling contraindicates CYP3A inducers such as barbiturates. Choose an alternative antianginal or sedative.
