Resumo

Carbamazepine is a potent CYP3A4 inducer and substantially lowers ranolazine concentrations. This can result in loss of antianginal efficacy.

O que esta interação significa em palavras simples

Carbamazepine and Ranolazine are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.

Carbamazepine belongs to Central Nervous System; Ranolazine belongs to Cardiovascular.

Nível de evidência: High

Por que acontece

Induction of CYP3A4 and P-gp increasing ranolazine clearance.

O que fazer

Do not coadminister; ranolazine labeling contraindicates strong CYP3A inducers. Use an alternative antianginal or anticonvulsant.
