Как действует
Secnidazole is a nitroimidazole derivative; 5-nitroimidazoles enters the bacterial cell as an inactive prodrug where the nitro group is reduced by bacterial enzymes to radical anions. It is believed that these radical anions interfere with bacterial DNA synthesis of susceptible isolates

Bacterial Vaginosis: 1 packet (2 grams) of granules or tablet PO once as a single dose, without regard to timing of meals

- Unknown Limited human data; no harm in rats or rabbits at up to 4 times the clinical dose. A nitroimidazole like metronidazole, which has far more pregnancy data and is preferred for bacterial vaginosis or trichomonas in pregnancy.

- Unknown No human milk data; related drugs pass into milk. US label: breastfeeding not recommended during treatment and for 96 hours after the single dose (possible tumour risk in animals); pump and discard. LactMed: vaginal treatments give lower milk levels. e-lactancia: compatible.

- Hypersensitivity to secnidazole, excipients of the formulation, or other nitroimidazole derivatives
- Patients with Cockayne syndrome

- Severe irreversible hepatotoxicity/acute liver failure with fatal outcomes reported after initiation of metronidazole in patients with Cockayne syndrome
- Carcinogenicity has been seen in mice and rats treated long term with nitroimidazole derivatives, which are structurally related to secnidazole; avoid long-term use
