摘要
Brimonidine labelling forbids use with MAO inhibitors, and selegiline is an MAO-B inhibitor that loses selectivity at higher or transdermal doses. Systemic absorption of the alpha-2 agonist could lead to unpredictable blood-pressure changes, and the effect on catecholamine handling is poorly characterised.
用白話說明這項交互作用的意義
Brimonidine and Selegiline are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Brimonidine belongs to Miscellaneous; Selegiline belongs to Central Nervous System.
為什麼會發生
Uncertain: MAO inhibition may alter handling of circulating amines and potentiate systemic alpha-2 agonist cardiovascular effects
處置方式
Avoid brimonidine in patients taking selegiline; use a different intraocular-pressure-lowering agent such as a prostaglandin analogue or beta-blocker where appropriate.

Can I take Brimonidine with Selegiline?
MediHelp rates the interaction as contraindicated. Brimonidine and Selegiline are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
How serious is the interaction between Brimonidine and Selegiline?
MediHelp rates it contraindicated, on a four-level scale (minor, moderate, major, contraindicated) based on published labels and references. What to do, in brief: Avoid brimonidine in patients taking selegiline; use a different intraocular-pressure-lowering agent such as a prostaglandin analogue or beta-blocker where appropriate.
What other medicines interact with Selegiline?
MediHelp also lists interactions of Selegiline with, for example, Amitriptyline, Amoxapine, Atomoxetine. The full list is on the Selegiline page.
