摘要
Both mafenide, applied to burns, and dichlorphenamide inhibit carbonic anhydrase. Mafenide absorbed over large burn areas can cause metabolic acidosis, and adding systemic dichlorphenamide may deepen this and cause hyperventilation.
用白話說明這項交互作用的意義
Dichlorphenamide and Mafenide can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Dichlorphenamide belongs to Miscellaneous; Mafenide belongs to Dermatology.
為什麼會發生
Additive carbonic anhydrase inhibition leading to bicarbonate wasting and metabolic acidosis.
處置方式
Monitor arterial blood gases or serum bicarbonate closely, especially with extensive burns. Consider stopping mafenide or holding dichlorphenamide if significant acidosis occurs.
可向藥師詢問的問題
- Does the benefit of taking both outweigh the risk in my case?
- Do I need any blood test, ECG or other check while on both?
- What early warning signs should I watch for, and what should I do if they appear?

Can I take Dichlorphenamide with Mafenide?
MediHelp rates the interaction as major. Dichlorphenamide and Mafenide can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for. Both mafenide, applied to burns, and dichlorphenamide inhibit carbonic anhydrase. Mafenide absorbed over large burn areas can cause metabolic acidosis, and adding systemic dichlorphenamide may deepen this and cause hyperventilation.
How serious is the interaction between Dichlorphenamide and Mafenide?
MediHelp rates it major, on a four-level scale (minor, moderate, major, contraindicated) based on published labels and references. What to do, in brief: Monitor arterial blood gases or serum bicarbonate closely, especially with extensive burns. Consider stopping mafenide or holding dichlorphenamide if significant acidosis occurs.
What other medicines interact with Dichlorphenamide?
MediHelp also lists interactions of Dichlorphenamide with, for example, Acetazolamide, Acetylsalicylic acid, Ammonium chloride. The full list is on the Dichlorphenamide page.
