For healthcare professionals — reference only. This page is a brief summary, not medical advice and not a substitute for official labeling or clinical judgement. Always verify before prescribing or dispensing.

Summary

Oxymorphone is metabolized mainly by glucuronidation rather than CYP2D6, so amiodarone's CYP2D6 inhibition is not expected to raise oxymorphone levels significantly. Any interaction is therefore likely to be small. Amiodarone may contribute to bradycardia and hypotension, which can add to opioid effects.

What this interaction means in plain words

Amiodarone and Oxymorphone have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Amiodarone belongs to Cardiovascular; Oxymorphone belongs to Musculoskeletal.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Amiodarone inhibits CYP2D6, but oxymorphone depends little on this pathway, so the pharmacokinetic effect is likely negligible.

What to do

No routine adjustment is required. Monitor for excess sedation and hypotension when starting or titrating either drug.
