Summary
Tinidazole is partly metabolized by CYP3A4, and amiodarone is only a weak to moderate CYP3A4 inhibitor, so a significant rise in tinidazole is unlikely. The more relevant concern is that both drugs may prolong the QT interval, with a risk of torsades de pointes.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amiodarone and Tinidazole can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Amiodarone belongs to Cardiovascular; Tinidazole belongs to Anti Parasitic.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation, with a minor possible pharmacokinetic effect through CYP3A4 inhibition by amiodarone.
What to do
Obtain a baseline ECG, keep potassium and magnesium normal, and monitor QTc during co-administration. Consider an alternative antimicrobial if the QTc becomes prolonged.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?

Frequently asked questions
Can I take Amiodarone with Tinidazole?
MediHelp rates the interaction as moderate. Amiodarone and Tinidazole can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
How serious is the interaction between Amiodarone and Tinidazole?
MediHelp rates it moderate, on a four-level scale (minor, moderate, major, contraindicated) based on published labels and references. What to do, in brief: Obtain a baseline ECG, keep potassium and magnesium normal, and monitor QTc during co-administration. Consider an alternative antimicrobial if the QTc becomes prolonged.
