Summary
Loop diuretics add to the blood pressure lowering effect of olmesartan, and in volume-depleted patients can cause marked hypotension and renal impairment. Their potassium-losing effect usually offsets the potassium-raising effect of the ARB.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-olmesartan and Bumetanide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Amlodipine-olmesartan belongs to Cardiovascular; Bumetanide belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Additive hypotension and volume depletion with renin-angiotensin blockade, with opposing effects on potassium handling.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure, renal function and electrolytes, particularly when starting or increasing the diuretic. Consider reducing the diuretic dose if volume depletion occurs.
What to ask your pharmacist
