Summary
Flurbiprofen may reduce the antihypertensive effect of the olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide components. Together with an ARB and a diuretic it raises the risk of acute kidney injury, especially in elderly or volume-depleted patients, and may cause hyperkalemia.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-olmesartan-hydrochlorothiazide and Flurbiprofen can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Amlodipine-olmesartan-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Flurbiprofen belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Why it happens
NSAID inhibition of renal prostaglandins causes sodium retention and reduced renal perfusion, impairing the ARB and diuretic effects and compromising glomerular filtration.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure, serum creatinine and potassium, and ensure adequate hydration. Use the lowest effective NSAID dose for the shortest time, or choose paracetamol where suitable.
What to ask your pharmacist
