What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-olmesartan-hydrochlorothiazide and Valsartan can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Amlodipine-olmesartan-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Valsartan belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Duplicate angiotensin II receptor blockade causes additive hypotension, reduced glomerular filtration and potassium retention.
What to do
Avoid using two ARBs together; keep only one RAAS blocker. If the combination has occurred, monitor potassium, creatinine and blood pressure closely.
