Summary

Artesunate is converted to dihydroartemisinin (DHA), which is cleared by glucuronidation through UGT1A9 and UGT2B7. Eltrombopag inhibits UGT enzymes in vitro, so DHA exposure could rise, with possible increased adverse effects.

What this interaction means in plain words

Artesunate and Eltrombopag can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Artesunate belongs to Anti Parasitic; Eltrombopag belongs to Miscellaneous.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Eltrombopag inhibits UGT enzymes in vitro and may reduce glucuronidation of the active metabolite DHA.

What to do

Monitor for artesunate adverse effects such as hemolysis and hepatic changes, and monitor platelet counts and liver tests. No empirical dose change is recommended.
