Summary
BCG vaccine contains live attenuated mycobacteria. In golimumab-treated patients, impaired granuloma function may allow disseminated BCG infection.
What this interaction means in plain words
Bcg vaccine live and Golimumab are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Why it happens
TNF is essential for granuloma formation and mycobacterial containment, so its blockade permits BCG dissemination.
What to do
Do not give BCG during golimumab therapy. If needed, vaccinate at least 4 weeks before starting treatment.
