Summary
The intranasal influenza vaccine contains live attenuated virus. In patients immunosuppressed by golimumab, the vaccine strain could replicate and cause disease, and the immune response may also be reduced.
What this interaction means in plain words
Golimumab and Influenza virus vaccine quadrivalent intranasal are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Why it happens
TNF-alpha blockade impairs immune control of replicating live attenuated vaccine virus.
What to do
Do not give the live intranasal vaccine to patients on golimumab; use an inactivated injectable influenza vaccine instead.
