Summary
Benzhydrocodone is an opioid prodrug of hydrocodone, and amphetamines have serotonergic activity. Taken together there is a possible risk of serotonin syndrome with agitation, tremor, hyperthermia, clonus and autonomic instability. Stimulant effects may also mask opioid sedation.
What this interaction means in plain words
Benzhydrocodone / acetaminophen and Methamphetamine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Additive serotonergic activity, with amphetamine-mediated monoamine release combined with opioid effects on serotonin neurotransmission.
What to do
Watch for signs of serotonin toxicity, especially at initiation and after dose changes. Stop one or both agents if symptoms of serotonin syndrome appear.
What to ask your pharmacist
