Summary
Cyclosporine is a CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein inhibitor and may modestly raise brexpiprazole exposure. The effect is greatest when CYP2D6 is also inhibited or in CYP2D6 poor metabolizers, increasing the risk of sedation, akathisia and other adverse effects.
What this interaction means in plain words
Brexpiprazole and Cyclosporin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Brexpiprazole belongs to Central Nervous System; Cyclosporin belongs to Miscellaneous.
Why it happens
Inhibition of CYP3A4-mediated metabolism of brexpiprazole.
What to do
Monitor for adverse effects of brexpiprazole and reduce its dose if a strong CYP2D6 inhibitor or poor-metabolizer status is also present, following labeling.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
