What this interaction means in plain words
Brompheniramine and Loxapine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Brompheniramine belongs to Respiratory; Loxapine belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Additive CNS depression through histamine H1 blockade and antipsychotic receptor antagonism, plus additive antimuscarinic effects.
What to do
Warn the patient about drowsiness and avoid driving or operating machinery until the response is known. Consider a non-sedating antihistamine and watch older patients for confusion and anticholinergic toxicity.
