Summary

Fenoprofen can blunt the diuretic and natriuretic response to bumetanide. In patients with heart failure, cirrhosis or renal impairment this may cause fluid retention and kidney function decline.

What this interaction means in plain words

Bumetanide and Fenoprofen can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Bumetanide belongs to Cardiovascular; Fenoprofen belongs to Musculoskeletal.

Evidence level: High

Why it happens

NSAID inhibition of renal prostaglandin synthesis reduces renal blood flow and sodium excretion, counteracting loop diuretic effect.

What to do

Monitor weight, edema, blood pressure and renal function, and raise the diuretic dose if the response is reduced. Limit NSAID duration.
