Summary
Probenecid inhibits renal anion transport and may raise levels of many NSAIDs. For celecoxib, which is cleared mainly by hepatic metabolism, the effect is expected to be small, but probenecid may also inhibit CYP2C9 slightly.
What this interaction means in plain words
Celecoxib and Probenecid have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Celecoxib belongs to Musculoskeletal; Probenecid belongs to Genitourinary.
Why it happens
Probenecid may reduce renal tubular secretion and slightly inhibit metabolism of celecoxib.
What to do
No routine dose change is needed; watch for NSAID adverse effects such as dyspepsia or edema.
