Summary
Heparins, including low molecular weight heparins, can suppress aldosterone secretion and cause hyperkalemia. Combined with an angiotensin receptor blocker, this effect is additive, particularly in renal impairment, diabetes or prolonged treatment.
What this interaction means in plain words
Dalteparin and Sacubitril-valsartan can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Dalteparin belongs to Cardiovascular; Sacubitril-valsartan belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Heparin-induced suppression of adrenal aldosterone synthesis adds to angiotensin receptor blockade.
What to do
Check serum potassium at baseline and periodically if dalteparin is continued beyond a few days. Monitor more closely in renal impairment.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
