Summary
Efavirenz, a CYP3A4 inducer, may substantially lower dasatinib exposure and reduce its antileukemic efficacy. Both drugs may also prolong the QT interval.
What this interaction means in plain words
Dasatinib and Efavirenz can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Dasatinib belongs to Oncology; Efavirenz belongs to Anti Virals.
Why it happens
Efavirenz induces CYP3A4, increasing dasatinib clearance, and both agents have additive QT effects.
What to do
Prefer an alternative antiretroviral without enzyme induction. If unavoidable, consider increasing the dasatinib dose with close monitoring of response and QTc.
