Summary
Intranasal dihydroergotamine is systemically absorbed and, together with dopamine, can cause additive vasoconstriction. This may produce severe hypertension and peripheral or cerebral ischemia.
What this interaction means in plain words
Dihydroergotamine intranasal and Dopamine are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Why it happens
Additive vasoconstriction from ergot alkaloid activity and dopamine adrenergic effects.
What to do
Avoid concurrent use. Use a different migraine therapy while dopamine is required.
