Severity: Moderate

Eliglustat and Lidocaine: moderate interaction.

For healthcare professionals — reference only. This page is a brief summary, not medical advice and not a substitute for official labeling or clinical judgement. Always verify before prescribing or dispensing.

Summary

Eliglustat is metabolized mainly by CYP2D6 and CYP3A4. Lidocaine is a minor substrate and weak competitor rather than a clinically significant inhibitor, so a large rise in eliglustat exposure is not expected. Eliglustat itself can prolong PR, QRS and QT intervals, so antiarrhythmic use adds theoretical concern.

What this interaction means in plain words

Eliglustat and Lidocaine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Eliglustat belongs to Miscellaneous; Lidocaine belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Possible weak competition for CYP2D6 metabolism plus additive cardiac conduction effects.

What to do

Monitor ECG when systemic lidocaine is given to patients on eliglustat. No adjustment is needed for local anesthetic use.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Should I take them at different times of day?
  • Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
  • Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
