Summary
Nabumetone can diminish the blood pressure lowering effect of eprosartan and raise the risk of renal function deterioration, particularly in elderly or volume-depleted patients. Hyperkalemia may also occur.
What this interaction means in plain words
Eprosartan and Nabumetone can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Eprosartan belongs to Cardiovascular; Nabumetone belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Why it happens
NSAID inhibition of renal prostaglandins reduces glomerular perfusion and promotes sodium retention, compounding the effect of angiotensin receptor blockade on filtration and potassium excretion.
What to do
Ensure adequate hydration and monitor blood pressure, serum creatinine and potassium after starting combined therapy. Avoid or limit the NSAID in patients with renal impairment or volume depletion.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
