Summary
Adding torsemide to eprosartan-hydrochlorothiazide produces additive diuresis, which can cause hypotension, volume depletion and renal impairment. Potassium and sodium losses from two diuretics may be only partly offset by the ARB.
What this interaction means in plain words
Eprosartan-hydrochlorothiazide and Torsemide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Eprosartan-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Torsemide belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Additive natriuretic effect from loop and thiazide diuretics with ARB-mediated reduction of glomerular filtration pressure in volume depletion.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure, serum electrolytes (potassium, sodium, magnesium) and creatinine. Reduce diuretic doses if hypotension or volume depletion develops.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
