Summary

Levofloxacin and formoterol can each prolong the QT interval, and formoterol-induced hypokalemia heightens the risk of torsades de pointes. Fluoroquinolones given with corticosteroids also increase the risk of tendinopathy, although inhaled mometasone exposure is low.

What this interaction means in plain words

Formoterol-mometasone and Levofloxacin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Formoterol-mometasone belongs to Respiratory; Levofloxacin belongs to Anti Bacterial.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive QT prolongation and hypokalemia, plus possible additive tendon toxicity with corticosteroids.

What to do

Check ECG and correct potassium and magnesium in patients with QT risk factors. Advise patients to stop levofloxacin and seek advice if tendon pain occurs.
