Summary

Pretomanid inhibits OAT3 in vitro, and ganciclovir is renally secreted partly by organic anion transporters. Ganciclovir exposure could increase, raising the risk of hematologic and other toxicity. Clinical data are lacking.

What this interaction means in plain words

Ganciclovir and Pretomanid have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Ganciclovir belongs to Anti Virals; Pretomanid belongs to Anti Bacterial.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Inhibition of OAT3-mediated renal secretion may reduce ganciclovir clearance.

What to do

Monitor blood counts and renal function during co-therapy. Consider ganciclovir dose reduction if cytopenias or toxicity develop.
