Summary
Indapamide is a thiazide-like diuretic, so combining it with hydrochlorothiazide duplicates therapy and adds to potassium, sodium and magnesium loss. The risk of hypokalemia, hyponatremia, dehydration and arrhythmia is increased with no meaningful added benefit.
What this interaction means in plain words
Hydrochlorothiazide and Indapamide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Indapamide belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Both drugs inhibit sodium-chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule, producing additive electrolyte loss.
What to do
Avoid using two thiazide-type diuretics together when possible. If combined, monitor serum electrolytes and renal function.
