Summary
Corticosteroids can promote potassium loss, and combining them with a thiazide diuretic may produce additive hypokalemia. Triamcinolone has relatively little mineralocorticoid activity, so the effect is usually modest, but it may matter with high or repeated doses.
What this interaction means in plain words
Hydrochlorothiazide and Triamcinolone acetonide injectable can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Additive renal potassium wasting from thiazide-induced distal sodium delivery and corticosteroid effects.
What to do
Monitor serum potassium during prolonged or high-dose corticosteroid therapy with hydrochlorothiazide. Supplement potassium or adjust therapy if hypokalemia develops.
