Summary
NSAIDs can weaken the antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors such as imidapril. Together they increase the risk of acute kidney injury and hyperkalemia, particularly in older, dehydrated or renally impaired patients.
What this interaction means in plain words
Imidapril and Naproxen can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Imidapril belongs to Cardiovascular; Naproxen belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Why it happens
NSAID inhibition of vasodilatory prostaglandins reduces renal perfusion and opposes ACE inhibitor effects on blood pressure and glomerular hemodynamics.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure, creatinine and potassium, especially in the first weeks of combined therapy. Maintain hydration and prefer a non-NSAID analgesic in high-risk patients.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
