Summary
Macimorelin is used to test for adult growth hormone deficiency, and insulin-induced hypoglycemia is itself a growth hormone stimulus. Insulin could therefore alter the test result, although exogenous insulin is not a labeled interferent in the way that other GH-affecting drugs are.
What this interaction means in plain words
Insulin degludec and Macimorelin have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Insulin degludec belongs to Endocrine; Macimorelin belongs to Endocrine.
Why it happens
Insulin-induced hypoglycemia can transiently raise growth hormone, which may confound the stimulation test; the effect is indirect.
What to do
Ensure glucose is stable and avoid hypoglycemia around the test. Follow macimorelin labeling for fasting and washout of drugs that affect GH.
