Summary

Inhaled ipratropium has little systemic absorption, so a clinically meaningful effect on levodopa is unlikely. Systemic anticholinergics can slow gastric emptying and reduce levodopa absorption, and salbutamol has no significant effect on levodopa. Any effect from inhaled use is expected to be small.

What this interaction means in plain words

Ipratropium-salbutamol and Levodopa have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Ipratropium-salbutamol belongs to Respiratory; Levodopa belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Anticholinergic delay of gastric emptying could reduce levodopa absorption, but this is minimal with inhaled dosing.

What to do

No routine action is needed. Watch for reduced levodopa response or worsening dyskinesia if inhaled use is frequent or high-dose.
