Summary

Lasmiditan is a 5-HT1F agonist that causes sedation and dizziness, which may be additive with the CNS effects of an MAO inhibitor. A theoretical risk of serotonin toxicity also exists because of the MAO inhibitor's raised serotonin levels, although lasmiditan lacks vasoconstrictive 5-HT1B/1D activity.

What this interaction means in plain words

Isocarboxazid and Lasmiditan can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Isocarboxazid belongs to Central Nervous System; Lasmiditan belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive CNS depression plus theoretical serotonergic excess from MAO inhibition.

What to do

Counsel the patient about sedation and advise against driving for at least 8 hours after a lasmiditan dose. Monitor for signs of serotonin syndrome such as agitation, tremor, hyperthermia and clonus.
