Summary

Lasmiditan is a 5-HT1F agonist that causes sedation and dizziness, which may be additive with the CNS effects of an MAO inhibitor. A theoretical risk of serotonin toxicity also exists because of the MAO inhibitor's raised serotonin levels.

What this interaction means in plain words

Lasmiditan and Phenelzine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Lasmiditan belongs to Central Nervous System; Phenelzine belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive CNS depression plus theoretical serotonergic excess from MAO inhibition.

What to do

Counsel the patient about sedation and advise against driving for at least 8 hours after a lasmiditan dose. Monitor for signs of serotonin syndrome such as agitation, tremor, hyperthermia and clonus.
